Ricky Valance RIP

Postby GoldenStreet » Mon Jun 15, 2020 12:22 pm

On the brink of the 60th anniversary of the recording of Apache, the man who would subsequently dislodge our great anthem from the number one spot with his only hit has died, aged 84. Another indirect association the Shadows (quite apart from Norrie Paramor!), if reports from the time are to be believed, is a mild dust-up he had with Peter Chester, which he felt damaged the clean-cut image established with his early success.

Sad news again. A very nice pleasant guy to talk to, when I saw him in a 60s cabaret locally with
Mike Berry, Dave Sutch and Billie Davis around 1990 or so.
BFI Films archive have a documentary called the Flipside from 1964 GranadaTV He is featured as someone
who has hit hard times in the business at that time- some dodgy looking agents/managers featured too!!!
