Maureen Cleave RIP

Postby GoldenStreet » Wed Nov 10, 2021 12:15 am

The veteran journalist and popular music writer back in the day for the Evening Standard, and perhaps best known for first reporting John Lennon's "more popular than Jesus" comment in March 1966, Maureen had previously written about the Shadows in 1960, including her observations on Shadow Lingo and quoted in The Shadows By Themselves: "After lots of winks, nods and private jokes, Tony said sympathetically, 'It's hard seeing us all together. We're a gang, you see, and we have our own sick humour.'" Happy days!
