Question

I've been using Band in a box for quite some time now and really think I need a better way of making my own backing tracks.
There must be better software out there and most likely a lot of you in here use it.
My tastes mainly lie in jazz and blues music, but I also like most other styles, Shads too obviously.
I know this subject has been discussed many times before but I'm asking again as things change so fast nowadays and there will be much newer things out there now and some of you may be able to point me in the right direction.
So anyone please???

For the full suite and editing options I go for ProTools - but this is an expensive option at over £400 for basic package.

The system getting rave reviews right now - with full functionality, automation, full 64 bit engine, virtual instruments etc... is 'Reaper' - which is only $60 for full licence!!

Dave, Tony. Thanks for the info on the recording software. I'll check them out and see what suits my needs most. Obviously I dont want to spend a fortune on something that is only ever going to be for house use as far as I can see. That said, if I want really good backing tracks I'll need to shell out that bit more I guess, so wé'll see.

What about the 2011 Band in a box software??? Anybody got that?
I'm in Canuck land at the moment (and no, not for that bloody mind-numbing hockey) and its on for a pretty good price. I know the old one was a bit on the naff side but listening to some of the samples on the new one, they sound pretty good quality now
