Tracks for a beginner

Postby Graham » Tue Nov 16, 2021 11:58 am

Can anyone recommend suitable tracks for a beginner to learn. I am not very good with barre chords. So far I have learnt Apache, Sleepwalk, The Lonely One, Theme For Young Lovers, Cavatina, The Rocket Man. Need some more straightforward tracks otherwise it can get frustrating.
Thank you.

Your mention of barre chords suggests you may be looking at rhythm guitar. If so, a lot of the early Shads hits had fairly simple rhythm guitar parts. After Apache, there’s quite a list: Man of Mystery, The Stranger, The Frightened City, Kon-Tiki, Peace Pipe, Wonderful Land, Guitar Tango, The Boys, Dance On, Foot Tapper, Atlantis, Shindig. Others require a bit more energy: The Savage, Geronimo. Some require more dexterity: FBI, Flingel Bunt and so it goes on. Pick one you like. If you can cope, great, if not, try another and build up your repertoire.

Sorry to confuse you but no, I am looking to play lead parts. I only mention barre chords because a few songs have a mixture of chords and lead, eg. Johnny Guitar.

Any suggestions are welcome.

The Stranger and Dance On are fairly straightforward.
