I re-sprayed my sunburst P bass copy last year using a Fiesta Red aerosol from Manchester Guitar Tech.

I didn't rub down back tt the wood, just took off the gloss & then gave it a covering of Halfords primer before several coats of FR at several days interval.
Take your time & gently rub down between coats. Finish off several times with a rubbing compound before a coupe of layers of clear lacquer (Halfords again!).

I haven't got a high gloss finish but I'm happy with it & it looks great on stage & matches the proper FR Strats the other guys on the band use.

Ford Sunrise is the best match I've found for FR, you could also consider Porsche Guards Red, which is very close.

(Perhaps that's why Burns call their equivalent Guards Red.)

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions re re-spraying my guitar body.
I live in a flat, so haven't got a garage, so i'm probably going to wait until the weather improves then have a go at spraying it whilst hanging from the washing line, and hope for the best

Cheers
