BERLIN - website and kickstarter

Postby drakula63 » Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:33 pm

Just under two years ago, as some here may recall, I had the great pleasure to be a small part of the inaugural performance of Alan Hawkshaw's musical BERLIN.

Having just discovered that he has launched a kickstarter campaign to raise money for the next phase of the plan, I googled around a bit and found the new official website. It brought back some great memories. If you scroll down the page, you will come to a little box on the left hand side which is marked 'Narrated Concert Testimonials'. After the show, I grabbed a microphone and a cameraman (with camera!) and headed out into the crowded foyer. It's amazing how easy it is to approach people when you've got a mic in your hand and a camera looming over your shoulder! I know that Alan was delighted with what we got. You'll recognise at least one legendary lyricist, some members of the cast and several delighted members of the audience. I was pretty happy too!

Let's hope the campaign is a success and gets the show the backing it deserves. Our very own Brian Bennett was in the audience that night and to say that he enjoyed it would be an understatement!

Anyway, here are the websites in case you are interested...

Here's a nice pic that's a favourite of mine.

I'm in the foreground - trying to look busy! - and Alan is in the background, keeping a Hawklike eye on the proceedings.

This was taken at the rehearsals for Berlin in Islington.

And a good time was had by all.

P.S. Some trivia. The rehearsal rooms were actually directly opposite Holloway Women's Prison. And as the rooms were not completely sound-proofed, I can only hope that the women in question liked what they heard! I was born in Islington - although whether or not this was in the prison I have not yet been able to ascertain.
