Bodie's Ford Capri

Postby drakula63 » 21 Apr 2016, 12:27

There seems to be some confusion about how much it sold for. Or maybe once the fees had been deducted it was the lower quote that went into the seller's pocket? Either way, a nice little earner, as Arfur Daley would have said! (And Terry's Capri went for £52,000. Apparently!) All I can say is, if only I'd had the money....

£53.760 - according to the auction site. And good to see that at least some of that is going to a cancer related charity.

Apparently, a particular favourite car of HM Queen Elizabeth was a 1960s Vauxhall
Cresta Estate, which is still kept in a garage on the Sandringham Estate.
This particular model had a few "Regal Extras" not available in the local showroom.
I.e. a Corgi dog guard in the luggage area (naturally of course!!!) , a custom made
rack to carry fishing rods, and a fitment to carry sporting guns to shoot grouse etc.
Ah so that's why an estate was called a shooting brake.
One careful Lady Owner, TALLY HO!!

I used to have a Capri that was almost identical to Terry's!

And I still have a Vauxhall Cresta, but it hasn't got a corgi in it.

It was made by Corgi though.

Confession.

Way back in 1983 (!!!!) I was 'working' at a plant nursery and stable. There was another 'Chris' working there as well and every time someone shouted 'Chris!' it caused a certain amount of confusion. So, eventually, the woman in charge asked me. 'What's your middle name?' I thought for a second and replied 'Lewis'. It wasn't and still isn't! So, from then on, when I was needed the shout went up... "LEWIS!" Wearing an old army jacket and sporting sideburns, I figured it was the closest I was ever going to get to being Bodie.

Yeah I know. But I've grown up since then. A bit. Probably.
