The Hollies

Postby drakula63 » Sat Sep 10, 2016 1:27 pm

Watched a great documentary last night (recorded on TiVo at Christmas!) about the Hollies. Had no idea they'd done all that close harmony stuff in the late 60s early 70s. Wings was a great song. The drummer was phenomenal too.

Just found this on their Wiki page...

Graham Nash joined them for the recording of an Alan Tarney song "Somethin' Ain't Right" on 10 September 1981 which led to a proper reunion album What Goes Around... issued on WEA Records in July 1983. Graham Nash continued appearing with the Hollies through early 1984 culminating in the Hollies last hit in the USA Top 40 with a remake of 'The Supremes' "Stop in the Name of Love", which reached No.29 in 1983. "Stop in the Name of Love" was taken from the album What Goes Around... which was released in July 1983 and charted in the USA on Billboard top 200 albums at number 90. A live album featuring the Clarke-Hicks-Elliott-Nash re-grouping, Reunion, was recorded at Kings Island Amusement Park in Ohio, during a US tour that followed that same year, finally being issued first in 1997 as Archive Alive, then retitled Reunion (with two extra tracks) in 2004.

There was a one off reunion of the line up of Clarke, Hicks ,Nash, Elliot and Haydock on Top of The Pops around this time when they did a medley of their hit records

According to my diary, I went to see the Hollies at the Colston Hall in Bristol on June 10th 1984, so I suppose Graham Nash must have been with them.

All I remember about that night is that they had two Yamaha DX-7s on stage, and during the gig one of them fell over, but kept on working. Also I had gone with two members of my current band, and we bumped into two members of my former band on the way in, so all five of us went to the pub afterwards.
