Hi All,

Just found this photo in the cd cover, of a cd my brother had given me a while ago (I had forgotten all about it). It's a picture of a guitar shop that was in Snow Hill in Birmingham, if you click on the photo it gives you the full address at the bottom (87-89 Snow Hill).
Do any of you guys remember it?
Anyone know if it's still there?

It's from a cd called 'Brum Beat' that features the following people..... Carl Wayne & the Vikings, The Rockin' Berries, Johnny Earle and the Starliners, Keith Powell, Nick James, The Ugly's, Jimmy Powell & the 5 Dimensions, The Revolutions, The Hellions, The Moody Blues and The Move.

I know this is not Shads related, just thought some of you may remember the shop or even some of the bands listed, as they are all supposed to come from Birmingham and it's surrounding areas

I don't know whether it is a coincidence, but there were also Yardleys Music shops in Torquay and Plymouth.
I spent many school dinner times looking in the window of the Torquay shop and bought my AC30TB from there.
Does anybody know the answer?

Long gone, we all used to crowd in there in the sixties and pinch plectrums ........
It ended up as Musical Exchanges... which fizzled out a couple of years back.
It had more names over the years - which I've forgotten.
Somebody clevererererer than me will tell you.

Any chance of seeing a shot of the back of the album would love to see all the artistes and the numbers recorded. Jimmy Powell was a Midlander the 5 dimensions I think came from North London and featured a very young Rod Stewart

It says that in 1963 they hurtled towards Coventry down an unfinished M1, to relocate around the capital. While they still accepted engagements in old haunts, their second city origins were not stressed as they followed the rhythm-and-blues trail to Richmond where they'd been hired by promoter Georgio Gomelsky as the intermission act and, in Sept '63, replacements for the Rolling Stones at the celebrated Crawdaddy club. Passing through the Dimensions ranks during this period was Rod Stewart, a singing Londoner who was to trouble the world further into the decade.

I know that they are not mentioned here but the lead singer from The Applejacks is still going round singing calling himself Stuart Jackson he came to our local club about a year ago.

I have a feeling I have been to that shop when we were in Birmingham doing the night clubs during the seventies.

Glad someone remembers it, hope it brought back some happy guitar shop memories.

Ecca, when you said it was 'Musical Exchanges', can you remember if there was an old bridge, if you walk down a bit to your left as you came out of the shop?
Only ask as i've been wanting to find a guitar shop i visited a few years ago down that way, but couldn't remember the name of it. Every time i've tried to look it up, it just tells me the ones i already know. If it is this 1, then that'll be why i can't find it Musical exchanges sounded familiar.

Are you thinking of City Music Ryan? That was under the bridge and just around the corner.
