Interesting piece but with a rather truncated account of Alan Tarney's huge contribution to the world of pop music.

I am indirectly reminded of being in the BBC Glasgow club bar back in the 70s and hearing some of the lads from the BBC Scottish Radio Orchestra singing Call Me Irresponsible as badly as they possibly could. They were unwinding after a morning in the studio backing a dreadful vocal session with Reg "On The Buses" Varney...

John Farrar, Steve Kipner, Terry Britten and an unfortunate reference to Alan Varney!

It's a good point about whether or not Grease would have been as big without John Farrar's songs. Certainly the best known song from the film seems to be You're The One That I Want and if nothing else, THAT clip is always shown whenever Grease or ON-J are discussed on TV. Can you imagine the film or revised stage show without this and Hopelessly Devoted to You? It's also worth remembering that his upward trajectory as a song writer and producer was really kickstarted by The Shadows. A hugely talented guy, but you have to be in the right place at the right time and being in MWF and The Shads and working at Abbey Road will have done him no harm!

I noticed that a lot of Mike Chapman songs were featured in the aforementioned 'A Few Best Men' film, but I'm ashamed to say that hadn't made the connection.

In the 50+ years since I've lived in Oz, there have been many talented musical people from here who have had worldwide success...including another Pom migrant in Perth, WA! :)

Yikes! I can't imagine anybody (Olivia, Bruce, John) being happy about this happening.

Olivia is reportedly unhappy about it.

I can't see it worrying Bruce, as he has gone public several times about his romance with Olivia. If they just stick to the truth, the known facts as drawn from interviews, press and TV coverage from the relevant years and don't try to embellish it or speculate then it could be OK.

I think it would be wrong to make this without some reference to her UK years and the big break she was given by Cliff and the Shads.
