the number of diverse sessions and albums that they have played on shows this 8-)

Yeah - we're looking for someone who plays and feels the music. It's not good enough just to be able to pick it - you have to have the empathy for it too.

Now... where is that person!?? ;)

So let me get this right - you are all beginners in country music but you want a dogs bllx country lead guitarist ? Somehow I can't see it happening, as good country lead guitarists are few and far - and will want to play with equally good band members. I respectfully believe that you need to lower your sights, bearing in mind your own experience on the country scene.

Ouch!

Sad but true! - and Mr Robinson goes straight to the point as usual-- 'cruel,... but fair' as Monty Python said... :D

Chris

As someone that has played on the country music scene and country festivals for at least 20 or so years ,my advice dont give up .Each new country band has to start from scratch and gather a following and in every band some members are stronger than others .

I think the golden rule is to play COUNTRY music ONLY in country clubs and to decide the type of country music you will play ( we decided on Country Music in the Alan Jackson direction and our own songs ) and to stick to it this as it will form your identity as a band .Country clubs love to dance (line or western )so the tempo and a good drummer and the voices are tops ,the Guitar sound will add the flavour to the band but should not control it .

Chris good luck in your search , be "Country " and be proud of it and dont give up
Cheers Nigel

Hi Nigel

No way are we giving up - we're looking hard for the right person and we'll keep doing that until he/she comes along. I just had an offer from Canada from a brilliant lead guitarist but have warned him it's not all roses in the Country scene in the UK either and so not to come over unless he has a "proper" job to go to as well. The UK Country clubs are struggling for money and consequently the five and six piece bands are having to do more and more of the Country festivals to stay alive, which does mean more travelling around to keep working. It's a shame when a duo can go out and get more than 125 pounds each for a gig but the bands aren't getting much more than half of that each. Sign of the times I believe. No matter - the members of the band so far are dedicated Country boys and all we need to round us off is that lead guitar person. Fingers crossed!

Our direction is also very much 80s, 90s Country with some originals thrown in. We have also chosen some numbers which are "different", such as Baby Likes To Rock It (Tractors) and Freight Train Boogie (Doc & Merle Watson). There are other great numbers in there too. A nice selection of my favourite Mavericks numbers (suit my vocal ability) such as Excuse Me (I Think I've Got A Heartache), All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down, Dance The Night Away, There Goes My Heart and of course I Don't Care If You Love Me Anymore. We have a little Joe Sun (Ready For The Times To Get Better), a little Albert Lee (Just Because), some Dwight Yoakam (A Thousand Miles From Nowhere and Fast As You), even a little Radney Foster (Just Call Me Lonesome), Buck Owens & Dwight (Streets Of Bakersfield)... sigh... I love these numbers. Obligatory Alan Jackson (Mercury Blues, It's Five O' Clock Somewhere) and yes, even some early Elvis and Cliff Richard to give 'em all a shock! Loads of other great Country numbers but too many to list here. Great harmonies and mouth harp from our keys man too!

(You aren't thinking of moving to the Mainland are you!?) HA HA

Cheers for now

Hi Chris no im not ( sorry)

But i am having the same problems trying to find the right person/s on the island duos and rock bands are quite the norm but the biggest problem is age a lot of the adverts are for 20/25 year olds .

I have thought of playing to backing tracks on my own and i could quite easily but its not really my thing as I like the live band situation with . However i am putting some sets together with a friend of mine over here and we will go out as a country duo this summer (Using the Nocaster and Takamine rather than the Burns ) so fingers crossed ,trouble is a new bigger amp is needed to do that HA HA :D as my trusty Cornford is only suited to playing to backing tracks

Good luck Nigel

Nigel I know someone who plays bass on the island if you're looking for bass guitar?

Thanks for the encouragement by the way - much appreciated.
