The Hunters

Postby Ryan » 24 Aug 2014, 18:31

Hi All,
I have a bootleg cd of Teen Scene and Hits of The Hunters, just wondered if anyone knows if they were an English or American band?
Also i have a Spotnicks greatest hits cd, i'm assuming they were an American instrumental band?
Cheers

The Hunters were another offshoot of the Dick Teague Skiffle Group, which also spawned the original Drifters lineup. Indeed I believe Brian Parker was asked to join the Drifters but preferred to form his own band. Pop history might have been very different if he had said 'yes'. There was a London Palladium show where Cliff had to fly back from the USA while the Shadows stayed on tour, and the Hunters were reckoned to be the next best thing to the Shads so were booked to back Cliff. (This may have inadvertently played into the hands of Tito Burns who was keen to make Cliff less dependent on the Shads, though that is only my interpretation...)

Plenty of stuff about the great Swedish band The Spotnicks is available through Google.

The Spotnicks are swedish, and had a lot of success in Europe in the early sixties. They were the second guitar instrumental band to perform as top of the bill at the Paris Olympia (The Shadows were first).
The band stil exists, although with some members changes. I saw them live on stage in Dombasle (France) in 2006 and 2008.
You'll find many videos from them on Youtube.
