Crackly Pods

Hi All,
My Burns shadows custom signature guitar has some crackling on the volume pod. What's the safest way to sort this out, any ideas?
This is a guitar that i didn't use as much as my others, as it is my pride and joy and i wanted to keep it in as good a condition as possible. I have now started using it more frequently (decided i'm going to get the enjoyment out of it as an instrument), would this possibly be the cause of the crackle, due to past infrequent use?

Give the pots a good swivel back and forth for about a minute, it's normally just dirt that needs cleaning off.
If that fails get the bonnet up and deliver a squirt of switch cleaner to the inside of the pot through the little apperture.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for that, what is switch cleaner? Is it a lubricant? I have heard you can use WD40 on pods, any idea if that's safe to use?

Switch cleaner is solvent based and can be bought at Maplins or any good electrical shop that supples trade. It also has a mild lubricant in it, whereas WD40 is a lubricant and will work, but it attracts dirt as it' s a light oil. Too much WD40 will eventually attract too much dirt and you'll end up with a dirty pot that will need swilling out. A little WD40 won't hurt to begin with though.
