Whiplash

Yes, I know it's about a jazz drummer, but it is also one of the best films about music in years. Superb photography, editing and music, topped by two outstanding performances by Miles Teller as the drummer and JK Simmons as the teacher - surely an Oscar winner in the latter case?

Alas, Jim, it does not, nor is the title theme written by Edwin Astley.

There is a big band number which gives the film its title, and a glimse of the score (or 'chart' as jazzers would say) shows that it is in 14/8 time.

Just been reading an interview with JK Simmons in a two week old edition of Metro. It's a film that I suspect I might go and see!
