Theres a new programme starting next month on sky arts called 'guitar star' looks good, and makes a change from the BGT/x factor rubbish, dont think there will be any shadows players on there though.

Saw a brief clip from it this morning. A guy playing acoustic very much in the style of Tommy Emmanuel. I think the standard will be quite high so probably worth a look. Anyone from here on it? That would be great!

They phoned me up a few weeks before it was advertised wanting me to enter but I decided it was not for me.

I think you made the right choice, Zoe (though I certainly understand why they would want you). I really don't understand why music should be competitive, whether it be The Voice, The X Factor, Guitar Star or the Leeds International Pianoforté Competition. Surely that's not what music is about.

Music should be fun and enjoyable no matter what your standard. If you can form a group with guys at your own level its a great social event too!

Personally I would have loved to see Zoe giving Celtic Warrior or Eve Of The War a TV airing.

The competition was open to Jazz players acoustic. players rock. players and they were looking for entrants to play a solo of no more than 2 minutes without a backing track and then to post that on youtube. My style of playing needs a band or backing track behind me to be appreciated. I certainly would not want to play in front of judges who have no understanding of what my style of guitar playing is all about. Steve Reynolds did that on BGT. It did give Steve some good exposure but I do not need that. The other factor was one of the conditions was the producers had the right to decide what you played. I have spent a long time developing my craft and there was no way I would have my reputation destroyed on the TV by people who simply don't get it.

None of what you've said surprises me, Zoe. Goodness knows who the judges will be!
