I'm glad you dont seem to be bored by these little stories 'cos I've got loads of them!
This next ones a bit sad though it shows how attached we can become to our guitars. Not long after we opened the shop in '94 a guy came in with a rather expensive vintage strat and asked for a set up. I cleaned it, checked the neck relief, intonation. trem tension etc. nothing much needed doing but the guy was over the moon with the setup, (he said I'd found the 'sweet spot'). Anyway, he came from the Birmingham area and came down our way about every 6 months on business. So every 6 months the guitar would be put in for a set-up. I never had to do much, the guitar was a good 'un. After about 4 years a young guy came in with the guitar. He explained that his Dad (the owner of the guitar) had died of a heart attack and the family wanted a final set-up on the guitar as they wanted to bury it with its owner. I'm a bit of a softy, and I dont mind admitting that I put everything into that last set-up.
The intriguing thing is that somewhere in a cemetary in the B'ham area there is a very nice sea foam green vintage strat buried for eternity.
