...But don't you think it's sad for the poor kids that so sooner have the summer holidays started, than there are adverts on TV and in shop windows proclaiming 'BACK TO SCHOOL' !!! Come on, give 'em a break!!!

This is the United States where school summer holidays begin and end earlier than they do in England.

Within the UK, Scotland summer holidays are also earlier than England, although they don't match American dates.

...true, but the first week in August I noticed a big display on the front of a shop (selling stationary, pens, etc...) saying 'BACK TO SCHOOL'. I imagined some poor little kid saying; "I'm not going back to school yet am I?"

Mind you, I shouldn't really be surprised by this as no sooner has Christmas finished than the Easter Eggs are in the shops and the Christmas decorations are up again in October!

Yes that's right Iain, teachers back today, kids back tomorrow, a lot of teachers will
be throwing long term sickies by Friday!!!!
