Ironically, there's a guitarist named CHRIS RAE on Hank Marvin's 1977 Guitar Syndicate album. I've often wondered if this was a misspelling of Rea, as I could well imagine him taking part if asked.

No, this is a different guitarist. See https://www.discogs.com/en/artist/289274-Chris-Rae

Interesting that it gives 'Chris Rea' as one of the 'variations' on his name...

I wonder how he pronounces it !!! ;)

Funny about the nickname, I've always thought of Chris Rea as dire.

Been a while...

Here's a pic of Tygers of Pan Tang, Thin LIzzy, Whitesnake guitarist John Sykes playing a red Strat, circa 1985. He rarely used one on stage or in the studio, so this is a very rare image.

Chris Rae also plays on a lot of library tracks with Frank McDonald and is a lot of the music in great TV shows like Minder. ;)

Incidentally, Police guitarist Andy Summers used a red Stratocaster on their 2007 reunion tour.

So many of these guys were fans of, or at least influenced by, Hank/the Shadows, that their use of the Red Strat cannot be a coincidence. Macca can be seen using one in the video for Coming Up.

That's because he was impersonating Hank.

Yeah, I know. Although I saw someone once insist that it was Buddy Holly! I think the point I was probably trying to make there was that Macca was paying tribute to his heroes and influences and Hank was among them.

Familiar guitar upside down, played by Bobby Harrison.
