I was 16 in 1964, making a cock up of my GCEs and probably playing a cheapo jumbo acoustic the make of which escapes me but it wasn't anything special, but then neither was my playing!
Other members have mentioned school, etc pals who became "names" in the music business. My only claim is that George "Zoot" Money went to my school but left around the time I started (presumably to form his Big Roll Band) so I can't really say I knew him. David Kernan of West End fame was also a pupil.
