New book on the history of The John Barry Seven

Postby Geoffers007 » Tue Nov 20, 2018 12:37 pm

I'd like to draw your attention to a book I've co-written, which has just been published. Hit and Miss: The Story of The John Barry Seven, consisting of more than 360 pages, is packed with an array of rare photos of the band, as well as some unique images of memorabilia and documentation from that era; some never previously published, many more seldom seen.

It also features contributions from ex-members of the band, the singers they often supported, and from friends and relatives of John Barry.

Even if you are not necessarily a devotee of The John Barry Seven per se, the book offers a fascinating historical insight into the British music scene of the period and provides an essential read for anybody remotely interested in discovering more about John Barry's formative career.

Looks interesting but I`m not sure I would want to spend twenty two pounds for it.

It might seem a lot, but it's a quality production and was very expensive to publish. With more than 120,000 words and hundreds of photos and other images, we think it's value for money! :)

My copy arrived this week & I've been unable to put it down!

Some people might be disappointed with the price but it's a lengthy & quality tome - I think it's good value for the money.

My copy was waiting for me when I got home from London last night...

A cursory glance told me that a quality, niche market hardback is quite reasonably priced at the cover price of £30. With the discount Geoff is offering, it's a bargain. I look forward o settling down for a good read in the days to come.

Usual disclaimer: I have no connection with the authors or publisher!

Looking forward to receiving this book. I have read "Vic Flick Guitar Man" By Vic Flick. Although a very interesting read I felt that Vic displayed some resentment towards John Barry. Thus hopefully this book on the history of The John Barry Seven will be an unbiased account.

I received this book for Christmas and have just finished reading it. I did so whilst referring to the three 'John Barry: The EMI Years' cds and cross referencing with Vic Flick's book.

I too thought this was an expensive tome but I found it an excellent and informative read. It is well-produced, intelligently written and thoroughly researched and will be of interest to anyone with a penchant for the pop music scene of the late '50s/early '60s with some great stories of the tours of that time.

The relationship between John Barry and the group naturally features prominently and I was surprised at how that gradually deteriorated after Barry stopped playing with them and moved on to other things whilst maintaining control over them.

The answer to Tony's question about Vic Flick's resentment is made clear although it is interesting to note that Vic continued to work with him as a session musician in later years.

I have no connection with the authors or publisher but this is a fascinating book which I recommend and mine (ordered directly from the author) was signed.
