Pop Music Lyrics

Quite often I struggle to understand the words being sung in pop music songs ,there is one being played on the Jet 2 holiday advert about wanting to hold someones hand. On other songs me and other people have misunderstood what the right words are it took me years to fully understand the words on Cliff`s Move It also Jimmy Hendricks Purple Haze I always thought he said excuse me while I kiss this guy when it`s excuse me while I kiss the sky. Somebody I knew thought Freda Payne sang all that`s left is a bag of coal instead of a band of gold, and someone thought Johnny Tilitson sang oh a tree in motion.there must be many others that people have got the lyrics wrong .Any more?

Hi Derek,
always loved...
"It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage role"
"It's a long way to the top if you want to rock 'n roll" Good old AC/DC

regards
Tony

For a long time, I thought that the lyrics of Move It contained the word "sacroiliac".

And that the song I Love You contained the words "bay on a bee".

Likewise, as far as I was concerned, the lyric of Jet & Tom's Hully Gully included "Bustin' down to what you see...".

Apparently the correct descriptive word for a misheard lyric is ..MONDEGREEN

...even though the title of the song is Poetry in Motion??

Years ago, before the interweb, I taught the song Chattanooga Choo Choo to my school choir - including the lyric "...Tullahoma calling..." With the advent of all the internet lyric sites I realised it should have been "...shovel all the coal in..."!!

Peter Kay does a funny sketch about this.

One of my wife's favourite songs is Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. Until I sang it to her one day she had always thought the first line, 'Hey, where did we go?'
was 'Hey there, Rodrigo'.

The trouble is that "Boston down to Waikiki" doesn't make any sense!

Maybe if Waikiki was in Florida...
