UNITED Breaks Guitars

Postby Bill Bowley » Mon Jan 18, 2010 3:03 am

Revenge Is Sweet

A musician named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines. United apparently damaged his treasured Taylor guitar
($3500) during a flight. Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay for damages caused by baggage handlers to his custom Taylor guitar. During his final exchange with the United Customer Relations Manager, he stated that he was left with no choice other than to create a music video for YouTube exposing their lack of cooperation. The Manager responded: "Good luck with that one, pal".

So he posted a retaliatory video on YouTube. The video has since received over 5.5 million hits. United Airlines contacted the musician and attempted settlement in exchange for pulling the video. Naturally his response was: "Good luck with that one, pal".

Taylor Guitars sent the musician 2 new custom guitars in appreciation for the product recognition from the video that has lead to a sharp increase in orders. Here's the video ......

We had this a couple of years back and there's since been a a sequel to it, plus another video with Dave Carrol explaining some more about it. Still very good and very funny - as long as it's not your guitar. Mal and I had some damage done by baggage handlers during a visit to Holland in 2002, but luckily only the metal guitar flight cases were damaged, much to our relief. The damage was so bad that the airline were made to pay for new flightcases.

That's a great story and nice to hear of how the power of music and mickeytaking can work ... shame on them ! and wel done Taylor for their warm gesture :)

I had a suitacase damaged in recent years and wrote to the airline concerned on my return home and duly sent in the baggage claim report... they responded by saying ' I'm sorry Mr Bayliss but because you have taken more than 7 days to apply we shall not be bothering to replace your damage suitcase...' well I would take more than 7 days if I was on holiday and it happened on arrival at my destination ! ... anyway I just let it drop because the suitcase was only £15 to replace..
