How to post a YouTube link

Postby Gruntfuttock » Mon Sep 30, 2019 4:25 am

I want to post a link to my YouTube video.

I have a link in an email on my computer.
This will take me directly to YouTube. However, if i cut and paste said link onto this site the written link remains BLACK and won't link to YouTube.
What am i doing wrong?
All help greatly appreciated.

On this forum, when creating a message click on "youtube" (on the top right of message list) and then paste the youtube link.

Hj Derek. Here’s a reply from Len from another site.

If you want the video to show in the post rather than just the link, when you start a new post you'll see a list of options along the top. Click on the emblem of a clapperboard, and a box will pop up for you to copy the You Tube URL. If you click on the share tag in You Tube, left click on 'Copy', and then right click in the URL box of the post and paste it into there. You have to delete the 's' on the end of 'HTTP' and then click on 'Insert'.

I hope that makes sense,

I hope Len doesn’t mind me sharing his post.

I’ve never tried that but following Didier’s advice will give you exactly what I think you’re asking for!

I have repeatedly tried to load a link to a youtube video but whichever way I tried it either does nothing at all or reports that the you tube video is not available. Error 400.Pasting the same link directly to the address line or google search works perfectly.Any ideas anyone?

Hello. I'd like to try to help. I can show you step by step. I should point out that this procedure only seems to work for me when I am using a computer. When I try to do the same thing, using a mobile or tablet, I can never get it to work.

The first thing you should do is to "copy" your YouTube link onto your clipboard - from wherever you have it now, perhaps in an email. Let's say this is your YouTube video URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YiFiq_6BzY

When you are in the screen of creating a message, you will see a row of labeled buttons above your message. At the far right there is a box labelled, "youtube". You are going to use that button in a moment.

"Paste" your YouTube link into the message so it will look like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YiFiq_6BzY

Then highlight the entire URL. On my computer, that will put a blue box/highlight over the entire address. Once you highlight the link, take your hand off the computer mouse and the address should remain highlighted. Please note, you should not "click on" the URL. Only highlight it.

While the address is highlighted, click that "youtube" button that I described...above, on the right.

It will then change your link so that it has at the right. In other words, it would look somewhat like this simulation:

To see if you were successful, click the Preview button below your message. If it worked, you'll see your YouTube video in the box with a triangular "Play" button in the center.

If you do not see the YouTube video play box, get out of the Preview area and try again.

Here is a Youtube video, with this procedure applied.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Donna
