From the TPTV information email this week:

"Our weekly variety show Sunday Night at the London Palladium (1965) is at 9pm hosted this week by Jimmy Tarbuck, with guest stars Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Charlie Drake and Henry McGee, Freddy Davis and Robert Harbin."

This'll include the Shadows' public premiere of The War Lord, which I audio-recorded in 1965 (and I still have the tape).

Thanks very much for posting this, Keith. I found TPTV on Freeview Channel 81 and have set my video to record SNATLP on Sunday.

That’ll take us back!

Love and miss all those great variety shows. (almost as much as I miss those great 50s/60s package shows. (Remember Cliff and the Shads and Des o'connor etc)
My wife bought me the Dvd set of Palladium shows I am working my way through, haven't got to this one yet so I will record Sundays programme in case it's not included. Ta for the heads up. (Incidentally if you can put up with the poor picture quality these are great nostalgic shows. John Barry 7 was on one of the ones I've seen so far.)

I must have watched this show when it was first broadcast because I remembered bits of it when I saw it last night. I was struck by how my sense of humour has changed over the last 55 years because I'm afraid that Charlie Drake, Freddie Davies and even Jimmy Tarbuck, all of whom I used to like, left me cold. Mind you, the joke about the Sahara Forest did make me laugh.

The Shads gave their usual polished performance but I didn't think the sound was all that great which, again, shows how much has changed in 55 years.

TV sound in those days was very poor. I remember watching double bass players going mad with excitement but to no audible effect whatever.
The lip sync was out in my recording off air, which spoilt all the vocal bits.

I just watched this program having recorded it.
I note that the lads and Cliff had quite a long spot. Not like today when the main artist does only one on a show like this.
As Ian said the total lack of Bass. I winder if we re-equalised it that would make a big difference. Question - why did they not do that on the transmission?
Anyway it was nice to see again.

Unbelievable; my Sky box froze at 20:55! By the time I'd rebooted it was halfway into the first number. I never expected them to be on at the start but I managed to get the main performance.
