Cliff v Gary Barlow

Postby Teflon » Fri Apr 10, 2020 8:16 pm

So this YouTube clip turned up on my time line this morning - Cliff duetting with Gary Barlow on "We Don't Talk Anymore" at home via video link. All very informal as part of the lock down shenanigins. I confess I'm a bit of a Cliff fan, but even so, my heart sank a little. Afterall, Cliff is 80 later this year, so a direct comparison with a global superstar in his prime is perhaps more than a little ambitious.

Having now watched the video, I have to admit, it doesn't always make pleasant listening because …. well, hear for yourselves :o : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N91u-4CxOTk

Colour me impressed as they say (with one of them, anyhow)

Cliff (no, honestly, not the one in the video)

Thanks for posting that. A couple of guys having fun during the lockdown. Those of us who like to perform could enjoy a bit of online jamming while the clubs can’t meet.

Tried this a couple of weeks back with the guys I play with at Bournemouth. Latency is the biggest issue and we couldn't really get it to work, so we just meet up online for a chat each week.

What software is "best" for online jamming? I've installed Jamkazam but haven't tested it yet. Skype or Whatsapp - would they work? Or record your part and send it to your co-conspirator(s) for them to record a separate track for later mixing?

Just thinking by out loud!

Jamkazam servers seem to be in the states. I installed it and find probably if the latency for use in the uk - it may prove to be the best. I found it did not run well.
I managed only to listen in to other sessions - then dropped out.

However I have set up Jamulus for our club guys. We have done a trial - but as yet we have not actually jammed. Seems with the fine weather other things are being done.
With all of them they seem to work better with when using ASIO4ALL - and a usb device although after some time of messing about I have got my client running under my PC sound card.

You need to have a mike so you can talk to the others - you can use Chat (typing) but its difficult in the middle of a run. So you need at least two inputs.
I have set up a server on my laptop - its very straightforward - remembering to open your router for port forwarding. I turn on the server as required.

It would be nice to get going.
