eBay photo ID

Anyone else fallen foul of eBay's new photo ID rule, which came into effect from July 1. It seems you cannot get your hands on your money as a seller unless they get a copy of your passport or driving licence. Caught me on the hop. I'm sure a few others might get a nasty surpise too

sounds like it could be some sort of identity scam.

I would be suspicious if I was you... I used to sell on Ebay until they bought these new rules in where they keep your money instead of your buyer handing it over directly to you. I now sell on Gumtree which is actually cheaper and quicker- at least I haven't had any trouble.
With Gumtree I paid a fee for the first item I sold and since have not had to pay a penny- have sold about four items pretty quickly- average time 3 or 4 days.

eBay are a pain in the ass.
They are continually meddling in other people's business such as finance and shipping and 99% of the time bugger it up.
I have had a nightmare with the sale of a couple of Zoom G3 pedals because they have stopped using PayPal and now keep the money and insist on paying into your bank. The thing is, I won't release items until the money is with PayPal, which safeguards us all, but eBay decided to change it to suit their needs and caused havoc.
As for the shipping, I have lost count the number of times they have been involved with printing labels and caused work and stress through not having the address correctly printed or getting the weight of the item wrong. They should leave finances and shipping to people who understand how it works.
I shall be using them less frequently from now.

I agree with Dave. E-Bay have become a real pain in the proverbial and everything is now weighted either in theirs, or the buyer's favour. Their fees, when once very reasonable, are also now very high. Buying or selling, E-Bay is no longer what it set out to be and it has become a place where it's not only 'buyer beware' but 'seller beware' also. I haven't tried them yet but I was going to give Reverb a go and see how they operate. Apparently they are operated through Etsy who seem to have a good reputation. I have sold some pictures through Etsy and although they charge around 15% commission, that includes the PayPal fee. Their listing fee is 20p per 3 months, so if you don't sell anything, there not much to lose. They also pay directly into your bank account - every Monday if you are a regular seller. I have also sold a few items through Facebook Marketplace - No fees there and all you have to do is get the buyer to pay into your Paypal account and the job's a goodun.

I must admit that despite the changes, I haven’t had any issues. I did have to go through the bank verification process where passport or drivers licence was an option but I can’t remember what I did and all monies have been safely transferred. I checked their t&c’s regarding fees and provided you get one of their sellers deals, 80% off final value or £3 selling fee, it’s still cheaper than what we used to pay when combined PayPal fees and eBay fees were added. Fortunately, I’ve cleared out a shed load of stuff lately and I only have a Katana amp and GA-FC pedal to sell which I’ll do when another special comes along.

I think you'll find that from July 1. if you do not give them photo ID you will not get any monies due to you from sales. Your cash will sit frozen in your payments due account. I know this because I have been at this stage since last week.

Interesting - I have a business ebay and since their recent changes I find they pay direct into my bank account about a day in arrears, but not at weekends (that maybe where folk feel it's taking days to receive a payout). I also have a 'personal' ebay account for non-business things, and it works in the same way.

I don't appear to be any worse off than before, apart from the slight payment delay which I've got used to. I don't bother with their postage labels etc - I do my own thing. If I've got something heavy or big I use Parcel2go where you get a choice of delivery companies etc. - other than that Royal Mail.

I seem to recall that on odd occasion I've used Reverb there's been a delay with payment.
