One of the true songwriting greats, with a long list of evergreen hits. His classical training gave him a style which really stood out in the early rock ‘n roll era when he first had success. He found the perfect lyricist in Hal David and the perfect voice to deliver the songs in Dionne Warwick, although artistes right across the board loved to perform his songs. I was lucky enough to see him in concert a few years ago. Working with young musicians kept him active to the end. I love his album Painted by numbers, with Elvis Costello.
