WHAT IS WRONG WITH SPAM??
Did you know that this is National Spam Week?
Spam, or spiced pork with ham, was the main source of meat for many people, during WWII, as it did not form part of the ration. Between 1941 & 1945 more than 100 million pounds of Spam was shipped from USA to Europe to feed the troops. In 1959 the one billionth can of SPAM was produced. In 1970 the 2 billionth. (1970 was also the year that Monty Python did their Spam sketch.) 1980, 3 billionth, 1986 4 billionth, 1994 5 billionth, 2007 7 billionth.
Fried, it took the place of bacon and sausages at breakfast time. Cold, it went well with a salad, or in a sandwich.
I still enjoy it (SPAM I mean) or when it's not available, Pork Luncheon Meat.
So hands off Spam, or I'll start sending you loads of e-mails, full of delicious recipes, such as Sweet and Sour Spam, Spam Lasagne, Spam Fritters, oh, I could go on all day, but I'm feeling hungry now. It must be Spam O'clock!!
