Quality of Life

Postby suewillfixit » Tue Mar 23, 2010 2:54 pm

Hi my name is Sue, I work promoting independence for adults with physical disabilities, some with deteriorating conditions and will never get any better. I am doing a "quality of life" project (bit like Jim will fix it) for those clients and one in particular is a big fan of the shadows. I am hoping that one or more of the shadows may see this and help me to make this mans dream come true. Ideally he would like to see them perform but a signed photo or personal message etc would be great. Hope someone on this site knows how to help me to make this happen. Thanks Sue email: susan.banks@nottscc.gov.uk

I've emailed you Sue... and your email address as supplied to us bounced back... but I think I've sorted the problem!

"Life Story" have arranged to perform a concert for the above in June this year. If any members of this site could donate any Shadows memorabilia to be offered as raffle prizes or as a souvenir please contact me by PM
Many thanks for your support
Take care

Told ya that Pete'll fix it!!
Looks like we'll be performing for about a hundred people at the West Bridgeford (Nottingham) Day Centre on 18 June, and Sue is planning for it to be a real "Party" night.......................good job, too, 'cause it also happens to be Pete & Kims Wedding Anniversary!
"Our Kid" REALLY knows how to treat a girl - get her to play "Nivram" on her Bass Guitar!!

Well, the gig's at West Bridgford (Nottingham) tomorrow night - trust our National footy team to have a match in South Africa!
Not to worry, though - as they say "Onwards and Upwards", we're still looking forward to an enjoyable evening, and playing some Shads tunes.
By coincidence, we've put "Theme from Shane" in our setlist, and the film is being televised at 8pm on Sky Classics - sounds like TWO reasons to stay home, then!
This sort of thing has happened before to the brother's Creasey (and I'd guess, other gigging musos). In 1966 we were booked to play at a works social club in Grimsby, on the night of the World Cup final!
We played for money in those days, and recall sitting with the Entertainments Secretary watching England win the match in an otherwise empty club. This particular Creasey is no football fan, and 1966 is probably the last time that he watched a match - and got paid for it too, if memory serves correctly!
Regards
Paul

Sorry I can't come to see you tomorrow, but SWMBO insists that I watch the football with her, to explain the "offside rule". I get questions like "How can he be off-side, when he's in the middle, not off the side of the pitch?"
HELP

Well, despite the world cup, we DID get an audience, and a large and enthusiastic one, too!

The disabled Shadows-fan whose interest started all this off sat at a table right at the front, had a BIG smile on his face all night, and REALLY enjoyed having his photo taken with a Fiesta Red Strat (Pete's) round his neck. Both the organisers (thanks for your hospitality, Sue!) and members of the audience were very generous in their praise of our efforts, and the proverbial "Good Time" was had by all, with much hand-clapping, foot-tapping, and even a spot of hand-jive.
The "Shadows" evening was the culmination of a lot of work by both staff and service-users at the Centre, and the amount of Shadows-related stuff covering almost ALL the walls and windows was phenominal - with some evidence of much background input by our own David Martin (IF I'm right - thanks Dave!) - and in the interval, I found myself learning things about our favourite instumental Band that I'd never heard before!

It is said the "Music can be a powerful force for good" - well, there was a lot of "good" last night, and "Life Story" were pleased and proud to have been a part of it.

Paul
