Alesis Q20 - Cakewalk UM1

Postby Pitts » Fri Apr 09, 2010 3:26 am

HI all,

Can anyone please assist.. ?

I am sure somewhere I have seen an artice that talks about using the Cakewalk UM-1G (Roland product USB-midi) for programming the Alesis Q20.
The earlier Roland Edirol midi device no longer being available.
If I recall properly the guy said it worked OK but I just don't know where I saw that post.

Does anyone know if this unit will work OK with the Alesis Q20 and say the EFTP patches (Charlie Hall) ?

Also can anyone suggest a good midi "stomp" pedal for using with the Q20 to utilise the midi commands for up / down commands or expression

Many thanks :D

Probably not the best board to post your query, hence the lack of respose.

I've used the edirol cable twice now and it's by far the easyiest way to download patches from your pc to the Q2/20, although as you say, there are other ways. There was a thread (which I can't find) which may have been on Charlies site, about alternative methods of download, but I wouldn't try to guess what was said.

As far as midi pedals are concerned, a number of members use the Rolls midi buddy and I find it very easy to use. It can be configured for 0 - 127 (Q2/20) or 01 - 128 (RFX's) patch shifting. Behringer also provide one that does the business, hth.
