Hi All, I bought a JMI 50th anniv shads amp (30/6 TB) from them, px'd some unwanted gear+cash and had a good deal as far as i was concerned, the amp looks and sounds the 'biz' D R has used it and given it the thumbs up (I did not pay anywhere near the £2500 they were asking !!) It is for sale if anyone is interested due to seriuos back problems.

Just do what I do and buy yourself a mega cheap bottom of the range Squeir that plays good and modify it to your needs

Just another point....Can they/do they copy top of the range amps too, like an AC 30 and if so, would anyone be able to tell the difference sound wise??? or for that matter, echo units???

I agree Hugh! I'm a cheapo guitar fan meself...

Regarding fakes, there's been a lot of stuff on the web about highly accurate copies of vintage gear being made in Asia and probably everywhere else too..there was an American dealer called Ed Roman who had a website talking about this some time ago..he had actually been shown secret workshops where workers were creating incredible accurate vintage fakes, like 1959 Les Pauls etc..

After all, in the global free market, if there is a demand for anything, whether genuine or otherwise, there is a market which will supply those items for a profit, rightly or wrongly, and such things as laws, honesty, copyright, patents etc are often disregarded...

I know some of my vintage guitars are genuine. I bought them when they were new!

I suppose it should'nt be a total surprise when you hear of them copying vintage guitars.
I watch Pawn Stars(yes I said pawn stars) and in that program it shows that if something is worth money it'll get copied no matter what it is, any shape, size or form. Its amazing what gets faked and sold on in pawn shops and antique auctions, and the lenths folk will go to make these copies look genuine, especially the American market. It just seems worse when it hits nearer home and your life's passion of our loving of guitars gets hammered too
But I suppose the profit market is immense if they can produce a really good fake. I've played an bought guitars all my life and I doubt if I could tell a fake Strat or Les Paul from a real one.

Thanks to some investigation by David Martin, it appears that the good news for me is that my Hofner bass is genuine and was part of a consignment ordered by Music ground back in 2004.
I have also discovered that although Music Ground no longer seem to have any of these in stock they are for sale elsewhere, particularly in the USA and documentation on my model is available at several places on the internet. The photographs that I have seen show that mine is identical to the ones currently available - result

At least you now have peace of mind instead of every time you play it, you wonder its authenticity and maybe puts a damper on things.

That's true, I had already sourced a baseball bat but I guess I won't be needing it now . . . . . .
