Thanks for that Bill that was great. Such a rare and memorable sight and Duxford is one of the few places on earth that can get so many Spitfires in the air together.

Were you there for the occasion?

Hello Bill & Barry,

Glad to see that there's still some aviation enthusiasts around these parts...............and that it's not ALL about "that sound"!!

Barry,

Sadly, I wasn't there! That didn't stop me donning my flying jacket and scarf, grabbing a scotch and sitting back watching the clip and enjoying the "that sound" of the Merlins and Griffons as they paraded before me!

Paul,

God forbid that aviation enthusiasts should ever cease to even 'lurk' on this group, I for one even as a sailor will never lose the fascination I have for 'flying machines! (including ye olde Vulcan!) ;)

AND, it wasn't only Spits at Duxford- what a show it must have been!

Aaaah, Bill!
The sound of Merlins and Griffons (.....and Olympuses, or is that Olympi??) - now THATS a "that sound" that I can REALLY relate-to!
Ye Olde Vulcan (XH558) is all set to go for the 2011 season, will all "winter maintenance" tasks complete, but money continues to be a problem, as it always WILL be with a project like that.
Also, as an aside, I really like the footnote to your postings - very true!!

Paul,

The Vulcan is never out of my mind for too long - only last week on Foxtel TV one appeared as part of the 'James Bond' festival in 'Thunderball', meeting a sad end though!

Bill, Paul,

Thanks for the Hurricane video and it's good to see the 4 flying in formation. It wasn't too long ago when the only airworthy Hurricane was with BBMF.

I must get to Flying Legends again this year and enjoy the atmosphere of the show and the sound of those Merlin engines.

Hi Bill,
Many thanks for the video clip,I have been a frequent visitor to Duxford for many years but not last year,- missed it badly. My wife and I met Bruce there one year,he said he loves the place. Good to see the Grace Spitfire well to the fore,I was fortunate enough to get a flight in it with Nick Grace just a few years after it was rebuilt, the year before Nick died.
Memories !
Cheers,
Des.

Des,

I hope that in years to come more and more people will realise that these 'things' are part of our world heritage and help to keep the 'real' memories alive and flying! ;)
