Remembering Roberto

Postby dave robinson » 30 May 2011, 12:50

It doesn't seem this long, but it is five years this last week that we lost our friend Roberto Pistolisi, a wonderful friend never to be forgotten. :)

Indeed. :|

Roberto's anniversary was actually 24th May - a date I shall certainly never forget. The funeral - cremation - took place quite quickly, on 26th May. I was lucky to get there in time.

I wasn't sure how well-received an In Memoriam would be received on the SM site (especially in the wake of more recent events) so didn't post anything about it here. But I did post a little reminder on Alessandro Tonini's Facebook wall on the 23rd.

Roberto faced his illness with incredible bravery and even nonchalance. I admired him in so many different ways. A true friend who is missed every day.

I don't understand why his memoriam shouldn't be well received Jim, as you well know you could not wish to meet a nicer man. I accept that his views were not accepted by everyone around here, but so what? He may have had some strange beliefs about our music and how it was created but his heart was always in the right place and I enjoyed our healthy debate, though we agreed to disagree on some things. He will always be remembered in my own circle of friends regardless of what other folks may think. I learned quite a lot about amps, echos and pickups as a result of our discussions and miss the banter we often had.

I didn't forget him either, and I put a message on the Shadows' Italian forum last week. It doesn't seem to me that it was so long ago when he came to the Shadtech meeting (with Jim N) in France, a few weeks before his sudden death.
