I've already posted on this but still can't find out how to un- register from this site , so as to remove personal details. Anybody know how?
PS i still think Ray L has had a rough ride on the last couple of subjects. As this is now likely to be my final post i would just like to say a big thank you to Audrey K, Ray L, Jim N, Hoffers and Bogan and countless others for all the info and help whilst i've been a member. Time to head back to been a closet fan.

Dave I see no point in you leaving here, you have posted over 260 messages on here and been happy to do so, leaving here will serve no purpose and not help the way this site is run, it needs more members to say what they want from here without the worry of having your post altered or deleted or your membership taken away or one of those private mails having a go at you, I've had it all and it stinks.....Ray L is a long standing good member and think he's got a bad deal also, all I ever hear is members staying away in fear of being shot down with there views, this was a great site but it's losing the plot now.....Stay and get you point over before it's too late ....

If I have your argument correct, you are suggesting that topics should not be started that might (not will, just might) cause replies that "risk of getting it in the legal neck for what members post". That is an interesting line to take - it is like trying to define what is a swearword and what isn't (which leads into the Scunthorpe dilemma). In asking my question on this forum I judged that the replies would address the moral question that I posed, which they did. However, as I said earlier, I am bound by your verdict as Moderator.

To Dave

Looking over a few back pages of 'The Lounge' illustrates the wide range of topics that people write about. Many are related to current news items - tax, immigration, the Olympics, etc. There is no obligation to read every thread. I certainly don't. I look at the title and decide - which is why I gave my thread a title which I hoped was a clear indication of the topic. TV programmes from B Sky B are frequently mentioned in threads so a lot of people obviously use the service and I was curious as to whether the current police investigations and criminal cases have changed anyone's mind.

Ray

What I didn't make clear was that although I have no wish to read about the stuff mentioned, I'm not against anyone else discussing it here, but it's dodgy ground when there are ongoing investigations and legal things going on, which is why it is a good idea to be cautious. For the record I am a Sky subscriber but I cannot stand Murdoch or his son, but I won't cut off my nose to spite my face as I enjoy some good stuff on the Sky channels. I think it's sensible to be cautious in this day and age of anyone being able to sue for any given statement, especially as there are folks queueing up to be offended for someone else around every corner, you only have to look on this site to see that. I don't know why some folks hang around here when they have nothing to contribute of any sense. :?

D Jones, as Derek says, you've posted many messages on this site which suggests that you must have enjoyed the forums for quite some time. I myself see some postings that I dont like and have found myself being somewhat annoyed by what certain members have said, but I would never shoot myself in the foot just to give them the satisfaction so to speak of knowing that they have succeeded in their quest of stirring it up and having caused another member to jump ship. You get this in every site on the net, it goes with the territory sadly, but as said, you can make your point by posting your disagreement over the unpleasant poster without feeling you have to leave a site which has almost certainly been a source of pleasure and helpful information in the past to you. It will not change things by leaving, but staying and putting over your opinions possibly will.
There was a guy who was in the site by the name of Burns Ernst, who was'nt in long but seemed to be enjoying the site and was posting quite a few videos of his offerings which were pretty interesting. He got upset by negative opinions fired at another member and left, which was a great shame for the site and I'm guessing for himself too if he were honest about it, it has'nt changed anything but if he'd stayed at least we'd all still be enjoying his music and he'd still be happy too I'm guessing, and I'm sure he will be feeling some amount of regret at his rather rash decision on leaving and letting the offending poster succeed. I felt quite sad about that but there you go.
I dont agree that the site is losing the plot as Derek says, in fact I think that its way much better than it was when I first joined many years ago, it does from time to time get a bit off key but its not that bad that it merits the feeling of chucking it all in.
There is a lot of good stuff on these forums and they far outweigh the bad stuff in my opinion so hang on in there and keep posting my friend 8-)
Hugh.

I'd just like to say that I have great respect for Ray and always find his postings worth reading. I apologise to him and those who sympathise with him. I am new to this moderating lark and with the wisdom of hindsight recognise that I did not need to lock the topic, just to insert a gentle reminder about the law as it applies to the web. I am here to serve you not to constrain you. If anyone is contemplating leaving the site because of my actions, please don't! We're all Shadows fans and are united by that.

Having been away from the computer for half a day*, it is good to see that there has been a well-reasoned discussion taking place.

To Admin and the Mods, yes, I realise the situation you find yourself in. I'm not intending to submit a stream of topics that will worry you. My original posting was simply triggered by curiosity into what it takes for people to give up using a supplier of popular entertainment. For example (AND THIS IS JUST TO ILLUSTRATE A POINT IT IS NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY), suppose NOTW (with top-level consent) had organised the abduction of Madeline McCann as a publicity stunt but it had gone terribly wrong and they had then tried to cover it up? Would that be the tipping point?

To everyone else - thanks for all your messages.
