Hi, Derek,
What?
A computer?
Yes, they don't last forever, and this particular Apple iBook was used intensively over a four year university course by my son before being relegated to the B Team. It won't cost all that much to fix (hoping to get a replacement drive for £40 - £50).
Was looking at the price of new ones at the Apple Store (Bluewater) today. Nothing under £899. £40 sounds like a good deal!

PS: I've had several hard-drives fail over the years. These days, I keep two separate back-up drives for important stuff.
