July meeting - and the SMSE Player Of The Year Award

Postby JimN » Thu Jul 01, 2010 9:07 pm

Yes folks, it's that time of year again. It's seven years since Spence and I started SMSE at the Upper Bell pub in Bluebell Hill, and over the last three years, the last meeting of the club year has become established as the occasion when we award the trophy for the SMSE Player Of The Year ©. The SMSE POTY is the (SMSE) player who has made most progress during the preceding twelve months.

In 2007, the inaugural year, it was Alan Rogers.

In 2008, we made the award to Kevin Wooten.

In 2009, Mike Beer received the trophy for that year.

So... who's it going to be this year?

We asked for nominations and suggestions, and we got them. And so it's too late now. Spence and I have only been and gone and done it - we've decided on this year's recipient.

So... are you going to be there to receive your award, whoever you are?

It Could Be YOU!

(well, not if your name is Alan Rogers, Kevin Wooten, Mike Beer, Spencer Scott or Jim Nugent, that is)

Where?

Temple Farm Working Mens Club, at 15-17 Cedar Road, Rochester, Kent ME2 2HB, [phone: 01634 717172 ]

If you have Satnav, you can use the postcode [ME2 2HB] as your homing signal.

If you're using less hi-tech methods of navigation, here's a map of the area:

You can probably see that Cedar Road runs off Darnley Road, but doesn't quite meet. That's because the local authority, suffering an attack of the madness that affects all councils, blocked off the junction with concrete. "A" marks the spot (and it isn't far from the blocked-off junction), but you need to travel via Cuxton Road (the main road - A228) and Hawthorn Road in order to get as near as possible to the club.

When?

Wednesday 7th July at 19:30

Why?

...er... file not found.

See you there,

Hi Guys,

We hoped to be there, but a hospital appointment has loomed late this afternoon.

Despite my absence - depriving you of your ray of sunshine and brilliant fret execution - we hope you all have a good evening.

Cheers for now, my congratulations the POTY - whoever they may be.

David and June.

PS MTB can now rest assured that due to my absence, he will shine unchallenged this evening as the player performing the most bum notes.............

We'll miss you and June tonight, David - best wishes.

And will it have any implications for the award ceremony?

It might...

Those there this evening at the Temple Farm WMC will be the first to know...

Bum notes, my a**e, or should that be a**e notes my bum?

Well if I'm to relinquish my title of POTY then I might just feel obliged to throw a few in!

Thanks for your good wishes, Jim.

I'm glad I wasn't in the running for POTY - if I had been, it would have classed as a bigger fix than World Cup 2018............

I have my methods to avoid nomination......

And people think I'm mad !
