Attendance was somewhat down at this month's meeting of the NI Shadows Club with a couple of members attending Shadowsfix and some on holidays but apparently things went off ok - or did they? I'm not sure but you can find out by reading this month's edition of the Worn Fret by Ed Banger. BTW Ed. Your efforts are even appreciated by those brethren across the water as it was mentioned by a one or two who were at Shadowsfix.

Hi Philip,
No doubt at all, - it went very well indeed, more relaxed with more time for everyone to chill out a bit.

Des.

Hi, Phillip,

I love the humour in the NI newsletter...

...but...

The 3 Galleons’ was a tune first released on a 1963 album ‘The Great Shadows’."?

Las Tres Carabelas was first released on the 1963 UK EP "Los Shadows", though as you say, it did also surface on the (German?) LP "The Great Shadows".

'The word ‘Carabelas’ is believed to be derived from the Latin ‘carabus’ = a wicker boat, and refers to a light sailing ship of Portuguese origin.'

And hence the similarly-derived 'caravelle'. It's funny how European languages often use very similar words for things which are somewhat related but not identical. Especially words which have their origin in Latin.

Your challenge for tonight: get from carabela to Lex Luthor in five steps.

Brilliant Jim. I just hope Ed. is reading this and feels suitably admonished 8-)
