I´ve read sometimes ago a Nokie´s interview where he said that he was the lead guitar in Bulldog.
However, my ears tell me there were 2 guitars playing lead line that could be Nokie and Bob.
In the beginning of their careers it was a very common practice they share this job.
Best regards,

That is interesting, Marcio. I have to listen for those two guitars in Bulldog.

My best,

Or we Nokie fans will GET you....

Robbo shouldn't knock Nokie if he ever wants to go to Japan. Not only are the Ventures still big in Japan but Nokie is almost worshipped.

Here's a photo of my wife and I sitting under the Nokie shrine at the El Camino Club in Akasaka, Tokyo

Hellow! abstamaria.

Thank you so much for your kind and warm encouragement words.

Our family is allright and none of my acquaintance was damaged from Tsunami luckly.

Talking of "Bulldog".

Have you ever heard of the original fireballs version.

I love The Fireballs very much.

George Tomsco the lead guitar of the band is very cool.

No problem then 'cos I don't - and it isn't my fault that many Ventures recordings sound out of tune and lifeless, they inspire me about as much as Bert Weedon did, which was minimal compared to Hank, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy and later Big Jim Sullivan and Jeff Beck. Apart from 'Walk Don't Run' and 'Perfidia' The Ventures didn't float my boat - sorry. ;)

Owd up Davey boy,you know I never normally disagree with you.
Bert Weedon was all we had before Hank and co arrived.
I cut my musical teeth on things like Ginchy, Sorry Robbie and
Guitar Boogie Shuffle.
He was the man, I'm surprised you didn't like him, he's nearly as old as you are.
Cheers,
Your pal.

I'm not saying that Bert wasn't any good Ecca, I saw him on 5-O Clock Club at the time and his guitar or playing meant nothing to me, my interest didn't materialise until I heard The Shads Apache which turned my head. For me at that time, the stuff that Bert was doing was 'old man's' music . . . . . . sorry. 8-)

Bert was and still is great. He was uncommonly stylistically versatile and played with feeling (some of the time). More importantly, he was accessible - he was on TV every week for years, and you knew you'd be able to watch and listen. I can recall him explaining about the equipment used with electric guitar (including echo) and even bringing on Tony Meehan (c. October 1961) as part of a series explaining how to play in a group.

Night Cry, anyone?

Great record - been listening to it today... and 12-String Shuffle ('cos of my new Martin 12-string)...

I'm with Robbo on this one... Bert never replied to my letter, and neither did Muriel Young!
