Got the patches and loaded them up successfully Dave, thank you.
Do you or does anyone else know if there is a limit on the number of times you can use the same effect in a single patch. Now by that I mean can you use the Vox amp sim and then the tape echo effect five times? I seem to recall somewhere that Zoom said you can use the same effect up to 3 times in a single patch, but I cannot find any reference to this and I'm beginning to wonder if I have imagined that. I have been experimenting with various echo and delay combinations but have found that the sound, if you stick to the one effect, doesn't seem to work too well. Anyone got any experience on this?

I've done it several times and there doesn't seem to me a problem, although sometimes I don't get the desired effect without swapping the different echo boxes around a bit. There's sometimes an extra tap at the end of a patch that isn't wanted, but I move them around until it works like my tape echo machine.

Phil did you need to put them in order ? Sometimes you do the other times you don't, it's a bit strange like that.

Something I tried today, on the Multitap setting if you turn the first knob fully clockwise to the very end, the echoes are more pleasing and useable at that end of the spectrum.

Phil, I think you maybe are thinking of what Zoom first said about using three boxes together - it's now six.

I asked Zoom support about using an effect multiple times. He said that was OK but might produce unusual results. The only limitation (apart from the max of 6) is the Zoom processor. Too many Amp sims and stereo effects will definitely limit the number. If a newly added effect exceeds the processor limit, it will show a "Thru" message and not contribute to the patch.

Dave, I think you could be right about the original software spec of the G3 and its three effects limit. I bought one when they first came out a few years back now, but felt it was too limited. Now with the six effects per patch it is a great piece of kit. I wonder if the 3 patch limit was something that was there from the start and has never been updated by Zoom. It's just that I feel if you use the tape echo four times, there seems to be something lacking. Three times, and there is not a problem. I agree as well that the multi-tap's best position is the maximum one.
Didn't really have much time with your stuff yesterday apart from a quick plug in and play to make sure they had downloaded OK, but I see what you mean now about rearranging the effects in your patches. I have started tweaking away. I tend to use the G3 at home as a stand alone practice unit, so I always try to have an amp sim in any patches otherwise the sound is pretty poor.

I haven't used mine without a guitar amplifier on the end of it thus far, either my Vox AC-4 at home or the Mesa Boogie MKIII at gigs. I have to programme it for use through my Bose L1 system for my solo gigs and that normally requires an amp simulation, but I managed it OK using the Vox Tonelab so I don't enviage a problem there.

When I've done those patches to go through the PA, I'll happily make them available for others to use.
I do hope though that these patches will help others to look at what I've done and experiment with them, going on to be able to understand how it all works and get the best out of the machine.

I'm taking the Zoom to work again tonight having tweaked some of the patches. Programming in the house is fine, but when the band get's playing there are subtleties that need adjustment one way or another, we're getting there.

Had a bit play around with my new G3 today. It's great

Loaded Dave's patches (Thanks Dave) found everything easy to use, although I have had a few Zoom boxes so I suppose that helped.

Patch building is a lot easier than on my G7 & the extra spaces available will be handy.
Already got a couple of good Duane Eddy patches running but will need to get my DeArmond out to make sure they work properly with the dynasonics/semi body combo.

The first one I ordered came "damaged" & when I ordered a replacement from Thomann it was showing as out of stock (B stock model at reduced price) but they sent what I'm convinced is a brand new one, box had certainly not been opened. Truly a bargain at £88 delivered.
