Find Me a Golden Street

Could I ask for advice please. Is Find Me a Golden Street played on the bridge and middle pickups? Or only the middle pickup? The first stanzas seem to be played on the bridge pickup, but the middle and later parts on the neck, until the end, when the sound becomes brighter again.

Sorry for the elementary question.

Best regards,

Andy

My guess is middle all the way through.

Thank you, Steve, Terry, Roger. I’ll play it that way then.

Warm regards,

Is it possible that the tonal variations you’ve noticed are to do with where he is choosing to pick each note? The further you pick from the bridge the less twangy the sound. Something to do with harmonics?

Thanks, Dave.

Iisin, I thought of that and tried it, but Hank seems to dip his trem bar when hitting the A string, which would be difficult to do when playing near the bridge. I can’t seem to replicate the tone of the lower notes on the middle pickup, but that could be I’m not playing well I’ll keep trying.

I thought I knew this piece well, which was even part of our repertoire on stage. But now that I’m listening to it more carefully, I’m discovering Hank’s little nuances.

Regards,

Andy

A key part of the sound of this tune is the somewhat choked sound and we found that we had to lower the action of the guitar to start getting close, and even then we still had to pick quite aggressively. Also, from memory, picking nearer to the neck pickup than the middle.

As everybody above has said, middle pickup throughout.

Paul.
