Lady Of The Morning

Any idea what fuzz/dirt box Hank was using on these tracks back in the studio and when performed on the 2004 tour? The studio version almost sounds like a fuzz direct into the console, but the 2004 live versions still sounds pretty darn good to me. Takk!

Hank used to use a Burns Buzzaround Fuzz pedal in the studio, I think he used it on The Warlord, and on his self titled 1969 album.

I think Hank said he preferred to mike his amp than go direct to console. That said it does not mean he never did it ,

Interestingly I came across the JHS Colourbox v2 recently which replicates a Neve console input as used at Abbey Road. Lots of guitarists have recorded into console as we know eg Beatles on Revolution and White Album , Goodbye to Love guitar solo by Carpenters and many more.

The Neve console was capable of clean boosting and overdrive and fuzz.

Not sure if Hank used the Burns Buzzaround. John Rostill did on Bombay Duck and others. He replaced the regular footswitch with a momentary switch so alternate notes were fuzzed/clean. Hank used a Maestro Fuzztone on the Warlord and similar numbers from that era. He also used an Ibanez Tubescreamer later and in MWF I believe. Don't know what he used in 2004.

I don't think I really hear a Burns Buzzaround in that tone, but it makes sense because of the Burn connection. It has more of that Maestro-esque sound about it - especially on the studio recording. Still not sure what Hank used live, because it sounds different but still really works.
