A bit of a light hearted aside………………………
In the search for the holy grail of ‘that sound’, has anyone considered the significance of the paper that Hank stuck in the nut of 34346 to stop the strings buzzing on the first fret?
Now that the pickups/ strings/ paint colour/ pick/ cables/ echo type/ amp/ speakers/ alignment to the earth’s magnetic field/ susnspot activity all seem to have been thoroughly researched, I think new avenues out to be explored.
What kind of paper was it? 100gsm? 200gsm? Conqueror? Croxley Script? Fag paper? How many folds?

Hi The papers used was Rizla
you need to get the fiesta red packet for the right gauge
you can try the Blues Or Greens but to get the authentic sound it has to be Rizla Reds.
i have some of these for sale £20 + p+p for 6 papers .

Are you sure it wasn't a piece torn off a fag packet? Django used this under his bridge, and Vic Flick used this under his DeArmond pickup on his Clifford Essex 'James Bond' guitar...
Whatever he used, it must have affected the sound on Hank's guitar surely??

I seem to recollect seeing a picture of the 'strat' and case with original contents still inside when Bruce acquired it from Cliff and it was Rizla fag paper which was still inside.

Hi now I know why so many Relics come complete with the fag burn near the nut !!
But the Lake Placid Blue or Sea Foam Green ones sound great for Blues or Surf Guitar

Definitely not Rizla...
It was Bronco... (gives enhanced bottom end performance)...
This will mean almost nothing to members younger than 55....

I reckon for enhanced 'bottom end' performance, you can't beat the old IZAL toilet paper.

Quite right Dave, and it had to come from the Chapeltown factory.
Regards Geoff.

You see this is where the mis-use of good fag papers comes into it.
Bands of later years would never have wasted such good skins for their hash like Hank did for just using to stuff under a guitar string
