Latest development from me.......

Postby ecca » Mon May 19, 2014 4:14 pm

I have made a PCB for the Automation eTaps. This incorporates Piet's interface circuitry and Johann's smoothing components.
Its manner of interfacing with the eTap PCBs is simplified. No wiring changes whatsoever are required if adapting an existing eTap for Automation use.
The FV-1 module is plugged out and the 16 pin lead from this pcb plugged in, in its place. The FV-1 module is then plugged into the new PCB.
It then connects piggyback to the Arduino unit underneath and the Adafruit display on top. The display will require spacing to clear the FV-1 module.
There is also an 8 way connector which brings out the 5 volt supply, the serial connection to the display and also the midi Tx/Rx connections.
The power for the Arduino is taken from the original board and smoothed using Johanns inductive/capacitive circuit as previously shown here.
Because of its connection manner there was an anomaly with the clip LED inasmuch as there was a small standing voltage left across it . This has been corrected by fitting a 6 legged opto-isolator.
The resistors are all SILs.

So... Can you upgrade existing valve preamp models?

Yes, but I have to try to get it all into existing enclosures. it's not too far off now.

Ecca,

To fully understand your development I like to ask if you by "Johan’s inductive/capacitive circuit* mean the same circuit as in eTap2hw Bulletin 3 “Power Supply Noise Filter for Arduino Automation” written by Steve Mitchell?

ecca Good afternoon,

I have left a message under "Echo Machines" basically i am asking the price etc of your E-Tap 2HW. Can you let me know asap as i am trying hard to resolve the echo problems i have. I use VOX AD 30 VT's and a VOX AC30 CC2 al valve.

Thank you for reading this, I look forward to your response.

I've made another PCB for the eTap unit.
It interfaces the LCD display to the Arduino and FV1 module.
I've made this PCB the same width as the display itself by putting the components on one side and the LCD and switches on the other so it will go into my
normal enclosures that I use for the valve Eccamatics.
There is a contrast adjustment and a terminal block for midi connection if wanted.
There are 2 centre biased switches that do the up/down, left/right functions . ( less holes to drill ) and a button to store.
Connection is via an 8 way PCB connection suitable for IDC connection. This marries up nicely with the pcb I made a couple of months back.
The LCD itself plugs in and can swapped for a RGB colour type if wished.

That looks like a very neat unit, Ec. It should also fit in a 1U rack panel, by the looks of it.
