My Original Eccamatic: Two Problems Solved

Postby David Martin » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:45 pm

My Eccamatic is brilliant... the sound is fab.

But when you're looking down on it on a darkened stage, you can't see the settings on the knobs (Sorry Missus... )

Here's my cheap, no solder solutions to both these problems looking down on the unit on a kitchen worktop...

The illuminator first...

Buy a pack of Powerbronze Power Rods in white... (http://www.powerbronze.co.uk/onlineshop.aspx) Two strips in each pack, and you only need one... sell the spare one on here!

Here's one with the end shrink tape carefully removed...

It's adhesive backed, so, after deciding exactly where you want it, place it like this...

Note the washers over the original bolt holes? They allow a little clearance for the wires to pass through. A little double sided tape holds then in place

The Power Rods are 12volt affairs - white positive, black negative, so look for this terminal block, where a switched supply is available and carefully trim you wires - with plenty to spare : it's a pain to do - and add white to red, black to black in the terminal block.

And the first job is done... reassemble and switch on ...

And now the elevator...

Take a small coaster, score it with a Stanley knife or similar, bend it to form a hinge, and attach it to the underside of the Eccamatic with double sided tape thus...

Now attach a ribbon to prevent it from over bended when supporting the unit... I used double sided tape but something stronger may well be required...

Turn it over, and elevate!

Note that it fold flat when not in use!

(Grateful thanks to Christopher Trace and Valerie Singleton and all at Blue Peter - no sticky back plastic was harmed in the creation of this device.)

To our overseas readers: this is a silly reference to a very old kids TV programme where the presenters encouraged viewers to make fun stuff out of junk.

Hi David

A good mod, but make sure your power supply can cope with the extra load! :?
