Jerry Lordan

Postby Arpeggio » Wed Jun 07, 2017 6:52 pm

This was on Facebook today (mentioned by Phil Jarvis). Mike Read and Claudine Lordan recently unveiled a plaque ( British Plaque Society) in honour / memory of Jerry Lordan. It can be found at the Three Tuns Inn, Salop St., Bishops Castle, Shropshire. Jerry spent many happy hours drinking / socialising there during the 1980s and early 1990s. Great that Jerry has been honoured in this way.

Thanks Rob...I was at the Three Tuns earlier this year and was just talking about it to Mrs Webb a few days ago. I had no idea this was Jerry's local...will definitely try to visit again before long and will look out for the plaque. I don't do Facebook but am glad that Jerry's unique talent is still being recognised.

Shadows' stalwart Dave Hawley was in attendance. He kindly sent me this brief report to post here....as well as a few photographs. Many thanks Dave. (I have not done this for SO long....I cannot remember how to insert photos!!)

"Claudine invited Linda and I up for the event and it all went very well. Mo Foster and Cliff Hall together with Jerry's sister Sue were also there as was Bernard Broche from the French Shadows fan club. Mike Read did the unveiling. Two videos were shown - with Hank Marvin and Cliff Richard both paying tribute to the great man. There was a live rendition of 'Apache'. Not sure of the lead guitarist's name, but he was joined by Mike Read on acoustic rhythm guitar and Mo Foster and Cliff Hall. 'Life Story' was also played by a different keyboard player. All in all a very fitting tribute to a great man."

There was quite a long feature on this event in Midlands Today (BBC) last night. It included a brief section featuring Claudine talking about Jerry, and the 'Pop Goes the Sixties' clip of The Shadows with Burns guitars playing Apache. Mike Read was strumming his guitar very enthusiastically...
