Burns Legend (1992) vs Burns Marvin ( 64 0riginal )

Postby hansaustria » 06 Aug 2017, 21:28

For all the BURNS users and fans of the Burns period of The Shadows.

A few days ago I recorded the B-side of The Rise And Fall.... ( It`s A Man`s World ) with my Legend & my Marvin from 1964.
Listen, the differences are marginal I`m surprised!

This does not surprise me.

I've written this many times. In my opinion, The Shadows' Burns sound has several important components... A mid-sixties Top Boost AC30 set with bass on full and treble just biting, a DeArmond 610 pedal set at full treble, and a Marvin. Echo to taste according to tune, but generally very low or just reverb.

I have been able to replicate that sound with both English Legend and Chinese Marvin guitars...

Hans,

I can hear the difference, but it sounds to me as if the newer Burns has new strings and the original model has old strings!

The original sounds more mellow as a consequence.

I agree with you Yohan, the sound of the original 1964 is softer, that of course is suggestive, and it is on that both versions are excellent
