The Trouble with Me is You!

Never seen this before. Strange to see Hank using a sunburst Strat and not the usual red and white one...

... and not a bad song either.

Would have made a better instrumental though.

That's the sunburst Strat Hank got from Tony Hicks, isn't it?

It was in use a fair amount during the 1980s. It was pictured on the sleeve of "All Alone With Friends" and also on the single extracted from that album Invisible Man http://www.45cat.com/record/posp618.

The same sunburst guitar, as well as the red "Patrice Bastien" Strat, was used in the advert for "The Shadows' Silver Album" in 1983

It also did service as an onstage "tuning spare". I can recall Hank turning to the sunburst Strat at a Kent concert in 1984, handing the red Strat (Bastien) offstage to an assistant for re-tuning.

That's the Tony Hicks one.

I remember Hank telling me what tracks he used it on. He said it had a 'harder edge' than the red one. It was straight after a show and the only track I can remember was Memory!!

" and if you have an Access card ..."

Access! That takes me back.

Shame that when you see the two little boys, who are meant to be Hank and Bruce, at the shop window, the Strat they are looking at is a '70s style one with a 3-bolt neck joint!

Also that when Hank and Bruce were that age, the Strat hadn't been invented anyway!

I really like "The Trouble With Me Is You", as well as Hank's other tracks from the album "Words And Music". "All Alone With Friends" is good too, but I think a little over-produced, compared to the previous album. In retrospect, Hank himself didn't think "Words And Music" turned out as he wanted it to turn out, but I like the sparer sound on this album very much.

I'd say Words and Music is better than All alone with friends but both are fine albums.
Sadly All alone.. didn't sell well which meant no more solo albums for the rest of the decade.

Anyone for any idea for the chords for this song? I see he's barring a fair bit (miming of course on the playing)

To my ears, it's in C minor

The first verse works to these chords:

Cm Cm Cm Cm Ab Bb Cm Cm
Cm Cm Cm Cm Ab Bb Cm Cm
Ab Ab G7 G7 Ab Ab G7 G7
Ab Bb Cm Cm Ab Bb Cm Cm
Ab Ab6 G7 Cm Ab Bb Ab Ab Bb Bb Cm Cm ...

If you like those, you can work out the rest quite easily

Hope this helps - Iain
