Help Dating a Vox AC30 please.

Postby PaulT » 21 Dec 2017, 00:08

I believe the following Vox Ac30 Top boost is a Dallas Arbiter mid 70’s. It has a diode bridge instead of the tube rectifier and is hand wired. However the serial number is a bit odd being only 4 digits? I thought it should be yearmonthDSerialnumber. Hoping someone can help.
Cheers

It looks just like mine (which i bought New Old Stock from A1 Sound in Manchester, in 1974 for £190).

Around 1968-1970, judging from the description.

I'm with Jim on this one.
I've the same amp, and btw this model is also in Hanks studio.
This model runs a little hotter , about 40 watts instead of 33 for a normal model....it has more headroom and stays longer clean.

Hello
If you take off one of the speakers you will find a code number on the cardboard facsia mount.
This number (Celestion) is decipherable on the "DATING CELESTION SPEAKERS" BYGONE TONES website.
The speakers were generally purchased within a month or so of the chassis so a quite accurate dating
can be determined.
Regards
Johnners
