I remember this.

It was in (roughly) 1965 and Cathy McGowan introduced the next (so far, unnamed) act as "Absolute classics" and added that she knew that the Rolling Stones were of the same opinion.

The producer selected a different camera trained on a stage which was in darkness except for some lights at the back, putting the band into silhouette. The familiar intro to FBI started and the lead guitar came in just as the lights went up and revealed Brian Jones playing the melody on Gibson Firebird...

Beatles also went in for this sort of thing.

George Harrison throws in a Shads walk during his video for Blow Away

and Paul McCartney appears as Hank Marvin (along with other characters) during Coming Up

talking about Ready Steady Go, I watched this show from 1964 until 1967 but not every program ,I don`t ever remember Cliff and The Shadows ever been on.Nearly every pop group going were on, too many to mention ,so were they considered not modern enough or did they not want to do it?

Cliff was asked more than once but said no. I don't know if a separate approach was made to the Shads.

Thanks for bringing this up. Many years ago, at the beginning of this site I asked the question if anyone could remember this. Nobody replied so I thought I must have dreamt it  Now I know it was true :P
