But different answer will only make the whole thing more complicated, that.s for sure.
So sorry if I have done that.

I will refrase my answer
So when you have decided for a amp, then try it with your guitar and effects.

And I think everyone will agree:'
Go for a good sound, without effects turned on, warm and rich.
Go for something easy to operate
Go for something easy to carry.

Not what you asked, but buy a Katana. You can try one at Richtone.

From a huge Fender fan, buy a Katana. Great sound at a great price.

I used a Fender Frontman for rehearsals yesterday in my friend's studio and achieved a lovely early Shadows tone from it, using his Quad GT that I sold to him fifteen years ago. It made me wonder once again if I have spent silly money on things that I never really needed in the first place. :|

I'm in agreement with Dave Robinson. I've had a FM212 (100w Frontman with 2x12" speakers and real spring reverb) for over 10 years now. It's bl***y loud (if you want it to be) but is nevertheless a one-hand lift (compared to a Twin Reverb which is the same size but feels like it's nailed to the floor). Treble, middle and bass controls mean there's plenty of variation to get the tone you want.

Although it's 100w, its noise floor is low so it's good for recording. I offer it as my studio amp and plenty of guitarists who've come to record have left their own amp in the car because the FM212 does all they need.

When Malcolm Lenny joined us in The Triumphs I discovered that he'd swapped his previous amp for a FM212. Malcolm has been playing since the 1950s - he was in The Packabeats and The HiFis in the 1960s. He has worked in a music shop, and knows a thing or two about guitars and amps.

The only Frontman produced today is a little 10 watt thing with a 6" speaker but previous models (there was a 1x12" as well as a 2x12") are no doubt available second hand.

Hi all,

Dave, Ray,

How does the Fender Frontman 2X12 compare to the Roland JC120 2x12 (if you ever came across one) as far as early Shadows sound ?.

Blessings,
Abel

Lol! I think that but wouldn't dare say it here.

Why not? (By the way you just did!)
I’ve always said it’s down to the player, not the equipment.

Sorry, Abel, I've not had the opportunity to make a comparison.

Hi Ray, Dave and all,

I am now between the Frontman 100 2x12 and the Champion 100 2x12 for the closest clean Fender sound.
Here, I can get either one for under $200.
After years of tribulations, my interest now is to achieve a clean Fender sound but with a Fender Solid State amp.
I do have a Hot Rod Deville 4x10 which deliver the best Fender sound you can dream of.
My desire now is to get as close as possible to the sound of the Deville with either the Frontman or the Champion.
The Roland JC120 has an absolutely clean sound, but it's not exactly A Fender sound.

Thanks for any input you can give.

Blessings to all,
Abel
